The 1930s decade was not a happy one in the United States and around the world. Dawning on the heels of the stock market crash in October 1929, the economic dropped quickly into the Great Depression that would plague our lives for the next ten years. Although Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected president in 1932 with a promise to make things better, his sweeping progressive reforms did little to improve the situation. To make matters worse, political unrest in Germany brought Hitler to power. He spent much of the decade swallowing up his neighbors in preparation for world conquest.
