Steamboat Willie was a short animated film produced by Walt Disney in 1928. In the film, Mickey Mouse is a mischievous deckhand on a riverboat that is under the command of the tyrannical Captain Pete. It is significant today because it was one of the motivating factors behind the successful effort to extend all US copyrights by twenty years, thus delaying public domain status for millions of works.
